Smell (Irrelevant to effects)
The CBDfx Turmeric and Spirulina Hemp Gummies smell heavenly as soon as you open the bottle. They have a sweet aroma that is almost reminiscent of vanilla, though we can’t figure out why. You can definitely smell the prominent, fruity sweetness as soon as you open the bottle, but the smell isn’t overwhelming and would probably be fine for anyone with a sensitive palate.
Taste (Irrelevant to effects)
The taste is not quite what you’d expect from the sweet, fruity smell, but they definitely don’t taste bad. The initial flavor is sweet, with tangy undertones. As you chew, the herbal flavor of the spirulina, turmeric, and CBD is released. The combined sweet and herbal tones make for a bold flavor, with a sort of pungent kick (the turmeric had to come into play somewhere). They do leave a hempy aftertaste in your mouth, but it is particularly pleasant if you like the flavor of hemp products.
Just like regular CBDfx Hemp Gummy Bears, these gummies are quite thick and chewy, like a great gummy snack should be. The wholesome flavor mixed with the dense, lip-smacking consistency makes these gummies taste like grown-up fruit leather.
The gummies, which are coated in a sugary powder, don’t stick together and are easy to dose. They wash down quickly and don’t leave any weird textures behind.
Effects (Onset, Duration, Intensity)
As expected, the onset was slow, about 1.5 hours after consumption. We took three gummies (15 mg) first thing in the morning and noticed a myriad of effects that made it easier to get going and stay focused throughout the day. Thinking that the spirulina and turmeric formulation could be put to better use, we swapped out our usual pre-workout dose for three of these gummies, and the results were impressive. Even after hitting the gym pretty hard (leg day!), there wasn’t much fatigue or soreness, even 5-6 hours after the workout.
Typically, after a workout of the same intensity, an oral tincture dose is needed 4-5 hours after the workout to avoid soreness and inflammation through the night, but these gummies eliminated the need for that extra dose. When the leg pain started up the next morning, these gummies provided the same level of relief, which lasted through the better part of the morning. Though the gummies could potentially be useful for a variety of things, we can definitely attest to their anti-inflammatory effects.
Best used for
Both spirulina and turmeric are recognized for their powerful anti-inflammatory effects. Additionally, evidence shows that CBD can help reduce both inflammation and pain. Although CBD has been linked to several different health benefits (like managing symptoms of anxiety and depression), this triple threat formulation seems to target inflammation and may be useful for managing inflammation due to injury, muscle soreness, or even chronic conditions. Studies have shown that cannabinoids may benefit those who suffer from inflammatory conditions, like rheumatoid arthritis.
Further, all three compounds, (spirulina, turmeric, and cannabidiol) host a range of antioxidant benefits. Cannabidiol has been identified as a neuroprotective agent, while turmeric and spirulina have been said to help cleanse the blood and rid the body of harmful free radicals.
