Smell (Irrelevant to Effects)

As soon as you open the tin, the scent of lavender essential oil hits your nostrils.  We love lavender and really enjoy the clean, relaxing effects it imparts (along with its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, which are likely why it’s included in this ointment), but if you aren’t into lavender or have an allergy to it, you should probably skip this one.

Since the Hemp Bombs  tattoo balm contains both coconut oil and beeswax, its consistency is somewhat dependent on its temperature.  At cooler temperatures, the balm is a bit firmer to the touch and feels less buttery smooth (some of the granular texture of the coconut oil comes through), but when it warms up it becomes delightfully soft and melts into the skin effortlessly.

A small amount covers a good sized area, but if you’re going for a full back piece you might want to splurge on the 4 oz container.  That said, the 1 oz jar will probably work for most tattoos under about 8” in diameter.  The balm itself is a creamy, off-white color and gives off a subtle sheen in the jar that becomes a shine on the skin.

On a fresh tattoo, this CBD tattoo balm feels awesome. It alleviates some of that subtle, stingy background pain of a new tattoo, reduces redness, and eases inflammation immediately after your session. In the days after, the balm keeps the tattooed skin hydrated and promotes healing while inhibiting bacterial growth. We used it as many times as needed for the first seven days, then twice a day for the week following, and ended up with a beautifully healed tattoo.

We also tested this product on older tattoos (about 5 years old) and enjoyed the refreshed look it provided.  While it’s a short-term fix for healed work, it can be part of a long-term tattoo maintenance routine to keep your existing ink looking its best for years to come.

Best Used For:

This CBD tattoo balm from Hemp Bombs is excellent for its intended purpose:  aiding tattoo healing. It is free of petroleum products and compounds that could damage your new artwork and prevents infection by inhibiting bacterial growth. It could also be applied to dry or damaged skin, though there are other CBD topical products that might be better suited for these purposes.

Best Used With:

This tattoo balm is excellent for localized relief, but you might also benefit from a systemic product like Hemp Bombs’ CBD gummies in the days after your tattoo session, especially if you had a larger piece done.  Adding in a systemic product can reduce inflammation and alleviate pain at the site of the tattoo and further support good healing.

An ounce of the Hemp Bombs tattoo balm contains 50 mg of CBD and costs $14.99.  This works out to about $0.30 per milligram, which is a little pricey as far as topical products go (though not outrageous).  Your new tattoo is worth the extra investment to help it heal and keep it looking beautiful.

We’re fairly heavily inked, but CBD tattoo balm was new to us.  We have to say, after years of using Aquaphor for our new tattoos, we may just have to convert to this stuff.  It alleviated pain, kept inflammation at bay, and staved off infection while keeping our colors vibrant and our skin healthy.  It’s a small investment that gives beautiful results.

Directions:  Gently apply a thin layer of CBD tattoo ointment to a new or existing tattoo several times a day as needed.

Ingredients:  Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Capric Triglycerides, Beeswax, Lanolin, Vitamin E Oil, Lavender Essential Oil

First Hand Review

Love this product. It feels very soothing on a fresh tattoo, and helps with the dreaded itching. I’ll definitely be ordering it again. Oh, and it smells great!
