Smell (Irrelevant to effects)
True to the scent profile of the Joy Organics skincare line, their CBD Face Mask smells very fresh and clean. There’s a hint of the rosemary and black licorice extracts the mask features, which lend a subtle spice to an otherwise very gentle aromatic profile.
Taste (Irrelevant to effects)
As an external, topical product that’s meant for skin, this mask shouldn’t be tasted. Please do not ingest!
The mask itself is white, subtly textured, and thoroughly soaked with serum. It comes in two pieces: one for the top half of your face, and the other for the bottom half. This allows for a good fit in the end, but it makes it a little bit tricky to unfold the mask — don’t worry, you didn’t tear it!
The serum saturating the sheet mask is clear and pleasantly fluid, though it leaves a noticeable texture on the fingertips as it absorbs. It’s not an oiliness or stickiness, but perhaps a … dampness? It’s similar to the feeling your skin takes on when it’s not fully dry after washing your hands. It’s not an unpleasant feeling — quite to the contrary, our skin feels hydrated, which is a good sign.
We should note that the extra serum will run down your neck — we didn’t mind this, but you might want to keep it in mind if you’re masking with nice clothes on. The excess runoff can be patted or massaged into your neck and decolletage for added benefits to areas that are often neglected during skin care regimens.
Effects (Onset, Duration, Intensity)
After cleansing our face with mild soap, we patted our skin dry and applied the mask. We noticed a gentle cooling sensation, which could likely be amplified by sticking the mask in the fridge for a few minutes before use (this could be especially helpful to reduce puffiness and inflammation of the skin and facial tissues).
We noticed the effects of the serum within the mask on our neck first, with a notable softening and hydration of the skin. Our skin looked plump, moisturized, and even a bit glowy, giving us high hopes for the mask itself.
After removing the sheet mask, we found our skin rejuvenated, replenished, and very hydrated. Our under eye area was noticeably less puffy, our skin had a gentle glow to it, and typical trouble spots like the nasolabial folds (corners of nose and mouth) looked improved in tone and texture. We were soft to the touch, and our skin felt both plumped with moisture and smoother than before the mask.
We also noticed a subtle brightening effect, which may be due in part to the antioxidant properties of the serum within the mask. Since hyperpigmentation is usually caused by inflammation, it’s not unreasonable to think that this product, as part of an ongoing CBD regimen, could be used to reduce hyperpigmentation of the face.
