Smell (Irrelevant to effects)
Inside the bottle, Pure Relief Pure Hemp CBD Oil Mint Flavor (1000mg) smells pleasantly like mint backed up by some of our favorite buds: slightly skunky, herbal, and pleasantly green. The mint scent is sweet, like the yerba buena so popular in gardens, and very much forward in the overall scent profile of the oil. That said, it still has a decidedly terpene-forward scent that isn’t purely minty — there are some strongly detectable notes of the original hemp flower here. We didn’t find it bothersome (we actually rather liked it), but it is something to be aware of.
Taste (Irrelevant to effects)
The flavor of the oil reflects both the mintiness and the herbal, terpene-forward elements in the scent. The sweet, bright mint comes in first, backed up by the earthy flavor of the terpenes and flavonoids from the hemp extract in the oil. The aftertaste is a little skunky, noticeable, and decidedly true to the organic hemp flower it’s made from – not necessarily bad, but no everyone’s cup of tea. Again, we were feeling it, but it’s something to be aware of.
The oil is contained within a clear 30 mL (1 fluid ounce) bottle that’s sealed with a child-resistant dropper cap. We appreciate this small but significant choice on the part of Pure Relief, and we hope to see more CBD providers making the same choice in the future. CBD is a medication and, as such, we feel that appropriate precautions should be taken when making packaging decisions.
The oil itself is a light, warm amber in color and very transparent. It’s free-flowing and fluid, making it easy to draw up in the 1 mL dropper for dosing. At this dosage strength, each milliliter of oil contains 33.3 mg of organic, full-spectrum CBD. The oil isn’t especially viscous, which we like, as it absorbs easily into the mouth without adhering unpleasantly and creating a prolonged aftertaste.
Effects (Onset, Duration, Intensity)
The oil is intended to be administered under the tongue, which allows some of the CBD within to be absorbed by the soft, vascular tissues of the mouth for quicker access to the bloodstream and, therefore, faster relief. We felt the first signs that the CBD within the oil was working within about 10-15 minutes of dosing — physical and mental relaxation and a general sense of wellbeing.
Relief from pain and inflammation followed this general mood enhancement, building over the first hour before leveling out pleasantly for the duration of our dose. We noticed improved range of motion in stiff joints, reduction in mild to moderate pain, and less inflammation in jointsand skin. This lasted for about 8 hours for most of our testers, which is comparable to similar products.
We were able to successfully treat a variety of symptoms with this oil, from pain and inflammation to muscle spasms to low mood and anxiety. Most of our testers noted powerful relief at this dose, but a few of us who are used to taking higher doses to control our symptoms found ourselves in need of a second-half or full dose for full symptom relief. If this sounds like you, don’t be afraid to increase your dosage as you need to in order to feel better. You won’t develop a tolerance or feel intoxicated.
Best used for
At this dosage strength, we like this oil best for relief from moderate to more severe inflammation, chronic pain, and anxiety. If we’re rating our symptoms on a 10-point scale, with 1 being no symptoms and 10 being symptoms so severe and debilitating that they prompt thoughts of death, we’d suggest this product for symptoms in the 4-7 range.
If the root cause of your symptoms can be traced back to inflammation (and there’s some compelling evidence to support the idea that it might), this oil might be worth checking out. We successfully treated moderate to severe symptoms of a broad range of conditions using this oil, and the dosage strength is strong enough to be therapeutic while still allowing for subtle modifications to suit your health.
