Description

Smell (Irrelevant to effects)

Within the bottle of Savage Full Spectrum Lemon Lime CBD Tincture (1500mg), the CBD oil smells pleasantly similar to lemon lime soda, though a bit less sticky sweet. The zest of the lemon and lime create a spirited scent that’s mellowed by the subtle headiness of MCT oil. The smell of the tincture gives us high hopes for its flavor.

Taste (Irrelevant to effects)

The citrusy flavors of lemon and lime dominate the tincture, with a slight aftertaste that’s both sweet and a little herbal. The flavor is pleasant on its own, but also mingles well with other flavors in food and beverages. The sweetness is enjoyable, but not so pronounced that the oil wouldn’t work with savory dishes (it’s actually quite nice dropped over roast chicken or vegetables with rosemary and thyme for a healthy dose of beneficial terpenes).

Consistency

First, we appreciate the decision by Savage CBD to package the oil in a child-resistant bottle. We feel that CBD is medicine and, as such, it should be packaged with safety in mind. It’s true that CBD carries no risk of overdose, but it shouldn’t be used by minors without adult supervision. We’re glad to see companies like Savage making good decisions with product packaging, and we hope to see more companies follow suit in the future.

That said, that’s about the most positive thing we can say about Savage’s packaging. Their labels are consistently unclear, partly illegible, and missing crucial information (their vapor products aren’t labeled for vape use at all — yikes). Of the labels, this product was the most confusing, a mishmash of different styles and images with necessary information rendered unreadable and crammed into tiny spaces.

This, to us, highlights the need for consistent and detailed labeling for all CBD products. We’re glad to see so many companies being so thorough, and we’re disappointed when companies create vague, illegible, or even intentionally misleading labels for their products. We don’t think that Savage created their labels with deception in mind, but it doesn’t appear they were taking clarity into consideration, either.

Now, to the oil itself: within the bottle, the tincture is tinted a soft goldish color and is transparent in the included 1 mL dropper. It is fluid and free-flowing, drawing up easily for dosing and absorbing well into the soft tissues of the mouth without creating a lingering aftertaste. It blends well into foods and beverages or absorbs quickly when dosed alone.

Effects (Onset, Duration, Intensity)

We felt the effects of the tincture about 30-40 minutes after taking it, which is in line with other ingestible products we’ve tried. At this dosage strength (1500 mg of CBD per bottle, or 50 mg per mL), the effects were pronounced once they kicked in. The first thing we noticed was a general sense of wellbeing. We felt calm, relaxed, and noted an improvement in mood.

Next, we began to feel sensations of physical relaxation and pain reductionStiff joints due to arthritis or injury became more mobile, muscle pain eased, and the tension we carry in our shoulders (it comes with the territory when you’re hunched over a computer all day) started to melt away. Even those of us who routinely take CBD at high doses felt substantial relief, and our testers who usually take closer to 20-25 milligrams reported feeling very relaxed — even a little sleepy. If this is true for you, you can always reduce your dosage to half a milliliter.

We felt relief for about 6-8 hours, and the dosage was sufficient for all-day relief for about half our testing group. We like this oil for its ability to provide lasting symptom relief without repeated dosing. The strength of the tincture gives intense results capable of alleviating moderate to intense pain — think in the ballpark of a 7.5 or so below on a 1-10 pain scale (where 1 is no pain and 10 is so much pain that it triggers thoughts of death).

We successfully treated symptoms associated with chronic pain and inflammation, muscle spasmsanxietydepression, and mood disorders. If your symptoms originate from some type of inflammation somewhere in the body (and there’s some compelling evidence to support the idea that it might be), a CBD tincture like this one from Savage might be worth a try.

Best used for

Because of its anti-inflammatoryanalgesic, and anxiolytic properties, CBD has a wide variety of potential health applications. It can help treat chronic pain (perhaps even better than opioids, according to recent research) and inflammation from a variety of conditions, from arthritis to autoimmune conditions to cancer. Its neuroprotective effects can help soothe seizuresand muscle spasms, reducing their frequency and severity.

We also like this product for the treatment of symptoms related to anxiety, depression, ADD or ADHD, and mood disorders. We feel more able to focus, more in control of our thoughts and feelings, and generally better when we take CBD, and many of our testers have experienced notable improvements in their symptoms with continued use over time. We also had success using this tincture to help induce sleep and improve sleep quality.

Because of the ingestible format of the tincture, it is best suited for long-lasting symptom relief throughout the day or night. It takes a little time to kick in (like most consumable products), but provides hours of powerful relief from a diverse array of symptoms.

Best used with (Complimentary Product)

As a long-lasting product that needs a little while to set in, we like to pair this oil with a vapor product like the pre-filled vape cartridges from Joy Organics. The CBD oil within the cartridges provides nearly instant relief from symptoms, helping you feel better in the short term while a longer-acting CBD product like a tincture carries you comfortably through your day.

If you need targeted symptom relief, we suggest a topical CBD product like a creamsalve, or roll-on for on-site soothing and pain relief. The CBD within your chosen topical will alleviate inflammation and pain at the surface while the tincture addresses symptoms from within, lending all-around relief and total relaxation.

Value/Price

At 1500 mg per bottle, each milliliter serving of tincture contains 50 mg of organic, full-spectrum CBD. This is a pretty strong dose for most people, and many consumers might find themselves content with a half a milliliter or so. We like this strength because it’s very versatile in the dosing options it provides. Each bottle costs $119.99, which yields a per-milligram price of just under $0.08 and a per-milliliter price of $3.99 — not too shabby for the dosage.

Competition/Alternatives

This product is the only one from the Savage CBD range that we had a fully positive experience with and, ultimately, while it’s a nice oil, there are other companies that we prefer to work with. The messy label is a significant issue for us, as is the lack of clarity of the information on the packaging. It’s a solid oil, but it isn’t a must-have. Still, this oil meets our CBD Buyer’s Guide criteria for quality, purity, and potency.
