Within the Joy Organics Pre-filled CBD Vape Oil Cartridge (Lite Citrus Breeze), the vape liquid doesn’t have a smell (which gives us hope that these cartridges will be leak-resistant!). When vaped, the resulting vapor smells of lemon, lime, and orange zest, capturing the sweetest parts of the fragrance without any of the bitterness sometimes present in lower-quality citrus flavors (this comes from the pith, the bitter white part of citrus peel, and is present when that part isn’t removed before the essential oils are extracted).

The vapor from the cartridges tastes delightfully citrusy and spirited, perfect for starting the day with powerful symptom relief or providing a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. The vapor is dense and rich in flavor (though shorter puffs will produce less dense vapor if you’re using the vape pen from Joy Organics) without being harsh or overwhelming, and the flavor balances the zest and sweetness of the citrus in a way that’s pleasant hit after hit. This wasn’t exactly a surprise; in our experience, Joy does an outstanding job with their flavors, and this vape oil is no exception.

We really enjoyed this flavor in the daytime, but we found ourselves a little less inclined to reach for it at bedtime. The bright scent and flavor are wonderful and pleasantly energizing throughout the day, but we found ourselves wishing for something a bit more mellow to wind down with in the evening. We hope that Joy will introduce an expanded range of flavors in the near future — we love these cartridges and we’d be ecstatic to have more flavor options.

Within the cartridge (which, by the way, is a standard 510 size that’s compatible with a wide variety of vape devices), the vape oil itself is a rich, pleasant amber color. It is transparent and viscous — small bubbles rise slowly to the top as the oil is used in your device of choice.

The oil is not meant to come out of the cartridge, so please don’t try to extract it. The cartridges are intended to be used as they arrive in their packaging (a slim cardboard box that protects the glass components without using excessive material), so don’t try to pour their contents off into another cartridge. That said, the oil itself is smooth and feels soft on skin. It’s intensely fragrant, so any leak will become apparent quickly. We didn’t have the issue of leaks with our cartridges, but your mileage may vary depending on how you store and use them.

The mouthpiece of the cartridge is a little different from many of the products available on the market, but not in a bad way. Unlike most mouthpieces, which tend to be a bit fluted and narrow at the end, the mouthpiece on the Joy cartridge is pleasantly round, almost a little chunky by comparison. We were a little concerned about how it would hit at first, but the rounded shape is easy to use for any experience level (and easy to clean!).

As an inhaled CBD product, this vape liquid is intended to take effect quickly, providing relief in the immediate term where products like softgelsand gummies do not. True to its design, we felt the effects of the intensive dose of CBD within the oil (450 mg per mL) within minutes of our first puff. Because of the strong dosage strength in the oil, we only needed a few puffs to feel relief from a broad range of symptoms — it’s especially good for people who need a stronger product for more intensive symptom relief.

The first effects we noticed from the vapor were related to relaxation. We felt our muscles ease the tension they carry, anxieties fell away, and we experienced a general sense of wellbeing and mood enhancement. We just felt better all around; we were more able to focus, felt less overwhelmed by anxiety and racing thoughts, and noticed a reduction in symptoms related to depression and mood disorders.

Secondly, we started to feel physical pain and inflammation fade. Within about 10 minutes of our first puff, we felt a marked decrease in physical pain, soreness, and tension, followed by a gradual reduction in inflammation in our joints and skin. The effects peaked about 30 minutes after our vape session and lasted for about 4-5 hours, though a few of our testers still felt relief for up to 6 hours.

Because of the high dosage in the cartridges, we really enjoy using them for fast-acting, powerful symptom relief. The effects we felt were intense and counteracted even severe pain, inflammation, and other symptoms. Vaping the oil helped us be more present and in control throughout our day.

While we’re on the subject of high dosage strength, we feel it’s important to note that these cartridges are way more concentrated than the competition. Most CBD vape oils are packaged in bottles rather than cartridges and contain about 500 mg per ounce (or 16.6 mg per milliliter), compared to the 450 mg per milliliter packed into the 1 mL Joy cartridge.

This high dosage of organic CBD gives consumers the opportunity to feel intense, lasting relief without needing to puff on a vape all day. After just a few puffs, we felt better than we did with just about any other CBD vapor product we’ve tried — it’s fast become our favorite vape oil, and we’ll be stocking up on these little dudes for sure. The Joy Organics cartridges are hands down, our favorite CBD vapor product for fast, potent relief in a safe formula.

Because they contain such a high concentration of CBD in each cartridge, the Joy vape oils are our top recommendation for people who need immediate relief from intense, debilitating symptoms. We love them for our own therapeutic purposes for relief from mild to moderate symptoms, but we can see them being extremely helpful for people who suffer from things like muscle spasms, seizures, or tremors. The high dosage in the cartridges delivers a potent dose of CBD directly to the bloodstream, providing nearly instant symptom relief.

We especially like these cartridges for severe symptoms, but don’t let that make you think that they aren’t also useful for milder pain, inflammation, anxiety, and other issues. The quick onset of relief and high dosage strength ensure fast alleviation of symptoms, from simple athletic recoveryall the way to fibromyalgia or epilepsy.

Ultimately, we like the Joy cartridges for just about every type and level of symptom we’ve put them up against. If you’re in need of fast-acting relief within three puffs (yes, three. It’s that good) for even severe symptoms, these cartridges are worth investigating.

We love the vape cartridges for immediate relief, especially when symptoms come on fast and intense (hello, migraine!). That said, the relief we felt from the vapor doesn’t last as long as an oral product, like the softgel capsules or oil tincture by Joy Organics. For all-around symptom relief that lasts all day, we like to take a softgel along with our vaporizer hits; the vapor acts quickly to neutralize symptoms, while the softgel extends relief for hours.

If you need targeted relief for soreness, inflammation, or injury, we suggest pairing the vape cartridges with a topical product like the pain salve from Joy Organics. The CBD within the salve will focus relief at the site of pain while your systemic dose (the vapor) works from within.

Each of the 0.5 mL, 450 mg cartridges cost $79.95. Next to other cartridges and vape oils, that sounds insane, but hear us out: the dosage is exponentially higher than most cartridge products (usually 250 mg per half mL at the high end of the range). Because the dosage is so high, the price isn’t as astronomical as it sounds; the per-milligram price of the vape oil works out to about $0.17, which is pretty close to the competition (the vape pens from CBDistillery cost about $0.16 per milligram for less than half the dosage).

As a brand, Joy Organics brings a lot to the table: their products include terpenes and beneficial cannabinoids like full-spectrum products but contain no THC whatsoever. Their entire line is formulated with locally grown organic CBD and the products are sustainably manufactured. Best of all, their vapor products contain no PG — a huge win in our book. To us, the quality of the vape cartridges from Joy Organics justifies the expense. We were able to feel better with less product, too, which could actually result in some savings over time (compared to less concentrated products).

Next to their competitors, these cartridges from Joy do look pretty pricey. However, they contain more than double the dosage of CBD than most of the competition, they’re free of PG and other potentially harmful ingredients, and they’re made of the best ingredients available. Like all of Joy Organics’ products, they meet our CBD Buyer’s Guide criteria for quality, purity, and potency and have readily available lab testing results on their website. Ultimately, we feel like they’re worth the investment in your health and wellbeing.
